Bill Henson, a Melbourne-born photographer.
I know Bill Henson through Nadav Kander's sharing session in Nafa.
Thus, I did some research on Bill Henson.
What I got really surprised me.
Bill Henson is one of Australia's internationally well known artists.
All his beautiful photographs of human form attracted critical acclaims, and also caused controversy.
In his works, all of his subjects are in dark background which looks like it is in an endless space.
Besides, the bodies were illuminated with dramatic lightings. With a slightly twisted body in the darkness, the subject looks mysteriously beautiful. Plus, the color on the bodies is pretty rich which gives a feeling of classical paintings.
"I'm trying to produce an image when the figure has all this potentiality," Bill Henson says. "When you're photographing a kid and they turn their head, you almost want it to feel like great pyramids. You're looking for an intensely intimate, breezing, proximate presence but, at the same time, something that is millennially distant."
Whereas his works caused controversy which is because the artworks exhibit naked teenage children as the art community find it inappropiate. From my personal view, I feel that sometimes there is no right or wrong. Plus, Bill Henson's works are really beautiful in the visual ways which it is not just mere about sexuality.
